Great performance

want to share your view privatly? email me at MYOWNOPINION@WOH.RR.COM

The Grammy awards aired last evening on CBS and had the 2nd largest audience in Grammy history. You have probably already heard who won what award and who performed, but I had a few things to say.

  • First, Carrie Underwood ! Enough said? I'm sure if you did not watch, you have already seen this covered by the Insider or another tv magazine show. That was a great and innovative showbut, for someone like Carrie it had to be tough to just stand there for this light show and FX and they picked the right performer so the show didn't take away from the performance.
  • Loved the duet by Miranda and Dierks but, had a problem with the camera angle.Watch the video and see what I mean. I know that a static camera action is boring so they switch from time to time and cover all the angles but I swear this cameraman was out to see if Miranda was going commando.I don't blame Miranda as she is there to dazzle and she did her job but there are a few sweeping camera angles that if any closer would have showed probably more than she was willing .With a talent like hers she doesn't have to stoop to baring anything to draw fans to the show.

  • The Black Keys did a fantastic job on their performance. I have said many times that too much new music today doesn't have that hook that draws you in and makes you pay attention. Not true with this song.Had a little trouble hearing the lead singing and that is probably due to them playing live and tv just doesn't capture the sound right, but loved the arrangement and the guitar riffs and the beat. I think they have a new fan or at the very least I'll be looking a little closer at them.

  • For those of you who didn't know the song that was performed by Sir Elton John and Mavis Staples accompanied by the Zac Brown Band and others, It was a tribute to Levon Helm who passed in 2012 and was the proverbial sound of The Band in the 60's.Although an odd name for a band of that era, they always said it fit because their early successes were backing up other artists and were introduced as for example"Bob Dylan and the Band". Anyway, they were probably the very first to capture the southern rock genre that gave so much popularity to groups like the Eagles and The Outlaws and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Anyway, below is the original by the Band of "The Weight" that was performed in their honor last night. Below that is a link to another one of their hits I've always been fond of and is part of my music library.

Another big hit for The Band

And just in case your not sure who I'm speaking of when I mention The Outlaws or you think I mean Johnny Cash and Waylon Jenings and so on, I am not refering to them. The outlaws were a southern rock group in the seventies that have to be another one of the most understated bands of music history. So, here they are: Girl from Ohio is one of my favorites but if not yours and you want alittle more rockin, while there give a listen to Freeborn Man, or Breaker Breaker take me home. You will add to your music library if your a southern rock fan.
