Is Facebook/Social Media replacing textbooks

Do you remember when texting your friend in class meant taking pen in hand and scribing it down as inconspicuously as possible and either passing it via student to student or slipping it to them between class ? Those of you who remember as I do may have to relearn our Sociology as we have become a high tech society. The good thing is that although slow, most people today texting and joining social media such as facebook and twitter are like us, in our 50's and 60's according to late stats and studies. I was watching a rerun episode of Rules of Engagement on the CW network when Audrey pulled out her cell phone and started texting to Jen, when Jeff(her husband) asked "what, are you back in high school?" and this is a couple in their 30's. So as they came into the tech age, so have we.
According to School.com, so have our teachers and college professors. This is from their site:
It's a known fact that students are Facebook-obsessed. But a new survey shows that teachers might rival their younger counterparts when it comes to social media use. Nearly all professors are active on social media, and 80% of them use it as a teaching tool. Check out the infographic below to learn how college faculty are using social media both personally and professionally.    by Loreal Lynch | April 27, 2011 in How college professors use Facebook
